DUCK FEATHERS
|
MALLARD DUCK : The famous bronze shoulders and the dyed flank feathers are generally used to tie salmon or sea-trout flies, as well as some streamers. Flank feathers are also used for mayfly wings, tails, wing cases Breast feathers are smaller and are used to tie wings for "drakes". Wing quills are used for small mayflies' wings (blue winged olive, pale morning dun ) or caddis. Little brown and grey neck feathers are great for "peutes" (literally "ugly" in a French patois, and very efficient), "sub-sedges" and trichopter wings.
